Rnd 18: Sc around where you started the first HDC. Fasten off; leave a long tail for sewing hoodie on head.

Ears: (Make 2) With Black Yarn, ch 2
Rnd 1. Work 5 sc in sec ch from hook = 5 sc
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in ea sc around = 10 sc
Rnd 3: Sc around
Rnd 4: *Sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * around = 15 sc
Rnd 5: *Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * around = 20 sc
Rnd 6: *Sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * around = 25 sc
Rnd 7-17: Sc around
Rnd 18: *Sc in next 3 sc, sc 2tog*, repeat from * around = 20 sc
Rnd 19: *Sc in next 2 sc, sc 2tog*, repeat from * around = 15 sc
Rnd 20: *Sc in first sc, sc 2tog*, repeat from * around = 10 sc
Rnd 21-22: Sc around Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing.

To shape tip of ears, gently push the end of your crochet hook into ear to give the tip a slight point. Be careful not to poke a hole through the tip of the ear.

At this point, you will insert the head into the hoodie. Position ears on each side of hoodie. Make sure the point of the hoodie is on the front of the head. Sew hoodie and ears on head. Weave in yarn. Glue the 1” black pompoms on the tip of each ear – set aside and allow to dry.

TIP: Any time I work with gluing a small piece or spot, I always use a toothpick to apply the glue. This gives more control on the amount of glue you apply. Now we work on the body.

Body:
With White Yarn, Ch 2
Rnd 1: Work 5 sc in second ch from hook = 5 sc
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each sc = 10 sc
Rnd 3: *Sc in first sc, 2 sc in second sc*, repeat from * around = 15 sc
Rnd 4: *Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * around = 20 sc
Rnd 5: *Sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * around = 25 sc
Rnd 6: *Sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * around = 30 sc
Rnd 7: *Sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * around = 35 sc
Rnd 8: *Sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * around = 40 sc
Rnd 9: *Sc in next 7 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * around = 45 sc
Rnds 10-19: Sc in each sc around
Rnd 20: *Sc in next 7 sc, sc 2tog*, repeat from * around = 40 sc
Rnd 21: *Sc in next 6 sc, sc 2tog*, repeat from * around = 35 sc
Rnd 22: *Sc in next 5 sc, sc 2tog*, repeat from * around = 30 sc
Rnd 23: *Sc in next 4 sc, sc 2tog*, repeat from * around = 25 sc
Rnd 24: *Sc in next 3 sc, sc 2tog*, repeat from * around = 20 sc
Rnd 25: *Sc in next 2 sc, sc 2tog*, repeat from * around = 15 sc
Fasten off – stuff body. Sew opening closed. Weave in yarn. Shape bottom base so body can stand.

Collar:
With Black Yarn –
Rnd 1: Insert crochet hook on top of body – pull yarn and make a loop. Sl St loop to secure.
Rnd 2: Insert hook through each st on top of body and sc around = approximately 7 sc around
Rnd 3: Work 2 sc in each sc around = 14 sc Rnd 4: *Sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * around = 21 sc Rnd 5: *Sc in next 2 sc, 2 s c in next sc*, repeat from * around = 28 sc Rnd 6-7: Sc in ea sc around Rnd 8: *Sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * around = 35 sc Rnd 9: Sc around

Now you will make the little points on the collar for the pompoms.

Rnd 10: *Sl st next 5 sc, work 1 HDC, 1 DC, 1 TRC, 1 DC, 1 HDC in next sc, sl st next 5 sc*, repeat from * around (You will have a total of 5 points). Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing. (You will be using this piece of yarn to sew the head on to the body).
Now you will glue the 5 – 1/2” pompoms on each point. Apply a small drop of glue on to the tip of each crocheted point on the collar. Attach the pompom. Set aside and allow to dry.

TIP: To control the amount of glue applied to each tip, use a toothpick. Apply the glue to the toothpick, then place the glue on the tip of each point on the collar.

NOTE: When you attach the head, position the head so you have two of the collar points in front, one over each arm, and one on the back. That balances the collar perfectly.

You will cut out a small skull out of pink felt. My skull measured 1” across and 1-1/4 ” long. Make the skull proportionate to the size of the dolls head. Apply a small amount of glue to the back of the skull (use a toothpick to spread the glue) and attach to the front of the cap. Set aside and allow to dry.

Arms: (Make 2)
With White Yarn, Ch 2
Rnd 1: Work 5 sc in second ch from hook = 5 sc
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in ea sc around = 10 sc
Rnd 3: *Sc in first sc, 2 sc in second sc*, repeat from * around = 15 sc
Rnd 4-16: Sc around
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Stuff arms lightly. Do not stuff all the way to the top – you will need a flat surface to sew the arms on to the body to avoid a bulky appearance.

Legs: (make 2)
With White Yarn, Ch 2
Rnd 1: Work 5 sc in second ch from hook = 5 sc
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in ea sc around = 10 sc
Rnd 3: *Sc in first sc, 2 sc in second sc*, repeat from * around = 15 sc
Rnd 4-9: Sc around Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Stuff legs lightly.

To Assemble:
1. Attach head to body.
2. Attach arms under the collar.
3. Attach legs.
4. With black embroidery floss, sew eyelashes (stitch just above the safety eye to give your Kuromi a “bad” look)
5. With pink embroidery floss sew nose.

Your Large Amigurumi Kuromi Doll is complete!
Doll measures 7” tall from bottom of base to top of head (not including ears).

Pooh - Little Buddies

If you are a stuffed toy lover or want to learn to make stuffed toys using crochet, you will find an assortment to choose from within these pages.  There are patterns for Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore and Piglet plus a honey pot, dragonfly, butterfly and flower.

Those who love Pooh and want to make all these critters for their children will be happy with the easy to follow patterns.  Those wanting to learn to create and design stuffed animals will find a variety of heads, bodies, legs, arms, ears and faces for experimentation.  You can always use part of one pattern and another to name a new creature.

When I was learning with self teaching methods to make crocheted bears and cats, I made a variety of critters with patterns available.  Then I put them away and created my own patterns.  It always helps to learn the basics before specializing.

The general instructions include the yarn weight symbols, names and categories.  The experience level for all the patterns is beginner to very easy.  Each round and row is listed separately which makes it easy to follow the patterns.  A listing is provided with all the yarns used for the examples and where you can purchase them.  There are color photos of each project.

I used:
Yarn – Double knitting oddments in pink, red, burgundy, black, beige, yellow and lilac. White boucle yarn - Sirdar Snowflake.

BeardFor the beard I used Sirdar Snowflake and a much bigger hook. It isn’t easy to use as you can’t see the individual stitches or keep an accurate count so some flexibility is needed when making this. Overall you are aiming for a semicircular type shape that will tuck under the sides of the hat and cover the lower face. Here is ‘roughly’ how I did it.

With white boucle yarn and 4.50mm hook chain 22. Turn.
1st row: dc2tog, 1 dc into each of next 7 chain, [dc2tog] 2 times, 1 dc into each of next 7 chain, 2 dc tog. Turn. (18dc)

2nd row: dc2tog, 1 dc into each of next 5 dc, [dc2tog] 2 times, 1 dc into each of next 5 dc, 2 dc tog. Turn. (14dc)

3rd row: dc2tog, 1 dc into each of next 10 dc, 2 dc tog. Turn. (12dc)

4th row: 1 ch, 1 dc into each stitch to end. Turn.

5th row: 1 ch, 1 dc into each stitch to end. Fasten off.
Sew beard to face and embroider eyes and mouth.
Attach hat to head, covering ends of beard.

LegsWith black double knitting and 3mm hook, chain 10.

1st round: 1dc into 2nd chain from hook. 1 dc into next 7 ch, 2dc into last chain. Working other side of foundation chain, work 2 dc into same place as last dcs. 1 dc into next 7 dc, 3 dc into the same chain as 1st dc worked. Sl st into 1st dc. (22dc)

2nd round: 1ch, 1 dc into same stitch as chain, 1dc into next 8 dc, 2 dc into next 2 dc, 1 dc into next 9 dc, 2 dc into 2 dc. Sl st into 1st dc. (26dc)

3rd and 4th round: 1 ch, 1 dc into each stitch to end, sl st into first dc.

5th round: 1 ch, 1 dc into next 7 dc, [dc2tog] 4 times, 1 dc into next 11 dc. Sl st into 1st dc. (22dc)

6th round: 1 ch, 1 dc into next 7 dc, [dc2tog] 2 times, 1 dc into next 11 dc. Sl st into 1st dc. (20dc)

7th round: 1 ch, 1 dc into next 8 dc, [dc2tog] 2 times, 1 dc into next 9 dc. Sl st into 1st dc. (18dc)

8th – 12th rounds: 1 ch, 1 dc into each stitch to end, sl st into first dc.
Break off black and join in burgundy.

13th -20th rounds: 1 ch, 1 dc into each stitch to end, sl st into first dc.
Fasten off and stuff legs.

Thread the cuff over the leg and sew in place at the top of the boot.
Attach legs to body so that Santa is in a sitting position.

ArmsWith beige and 3 mm hook make 2 chain.

1st round: 6 dc into 2nd chain from hook. Join with a slip st into 1st dc.

3rd round: 1 ch, 1 dc into each stitch to end, sl st into first dc.

4th round: 1 ch, 2 dc into same stitch as chain, 1 dc into next dc, [2 dc into next dc, 1 dc into next dc] 5 times. Sl st into 1st dc. (18 dc)

1st round: 1ch, 1 dc into same place, 1 dc into next 16 chain. Sl st into 1st dc.

2nd round: 1 ch, 1 dc into each stitch to end, sl st into first dc.
Fasten off.
Thread the cuff over the arm and sew in place at wrist.
Sew up the tops of the arms and attach to body.

Santa’s stocking
Using yellow work rounds 1 – 12 of legs. Fasten off.

Use a contrasting colour to embroider some details around the stocking.
Finally sew three colourful buttons to the front of the upper body.
